Leather pouch

I needed a new toilet bag. The one I got was bright neon and suitable for modern life camping nights, but for reenactment it was terribly ugly.

During the summer of 2022 I noticed the beautiful leather bag that Ulf Härdner carried his toilettery in and decided to attempt a better toilet bag myself. As it turned out, I've been using this pouch for my sewing kit far more than my toothbrush. I probably have to make more of these.

I also wetted the leather and pushed my mark in the leather for easy identification, and to make it look a bit more worked and decorated.

The poach size is made to be able to contain a shampoo bottle. The opening is wide enough for my hand picking stuff out and it's wider at the bottom. It's made from three equal pieces of leather sewn together. I first cut out a pattern in paper. The measurements for the paper pattern was calculated from a rough estimate of the size (divided by three in width), and adding a fem millimetres as a rim for sewing.

To carry the poach I made loopholes in the poach and spliced a thin rope in place and for decoration I bought a brick woven band at a viking market that was stitched in place. To finish off I made an extra leather loop since a lot of bathrooms have hooks to hang a bag on, and if I'd hang it by the string it would shut itself by its own weight.
