Viking age bag

Based on finds, this bag became common among reenactors in the very late 2010's/early 2020's.

It's a simple construction that allows for some creative variations.

Construction

You'll need

Making the wooden parts

Two wooden parts are set up. They should be quite similar in outer shape, but one will probably be the front side and one will be the back side.
I opted for similar pattern on both sides. The pattern was cut with chisel and club.

The one thing that really matters is that the holes are wide enough for the intended rope to run easily within it.

For the inside I choose to make a little guardian dragon to protect my stuff, and my mark to mark ownership.

Leather works

The leather consist of a circular tube of leather with a bottom attached to it.
The bottom is in the shape of a pointy elipse that fit the tube.
On the top part a string is sewn into a folded down rim to support the weight of the bag when full.

All seams in the leather is sewn with double needles in waxed linen thread.

The leather part is sewn to the wooden parts in the same manner.
